"Blah, Blah, Blah" Commnunication and Visual Supports for Children with Communciation Challenges
"Blah, Blah, Blah" is a one-day workshop which will provide participants; caregivers, parents and professionals, with the knowledge and tools to begin augmenting a child's communication skills. After a brief overview of autism spectrum disorders and the communication characterisitics, participants will be exposed to the hierarchy of communication. In addition, the functions of an individual's behaviour will be explored using a variety of assessment tools. The afternoon session will focus on the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), an effective tool used to augment communication skills. Participants will be given a brief training session with PECS and will have an opportunity to practice the techniques demonstrated.

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT: Addressing Challenging Behaviours
Children and youth, with autism and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders, often display behaviours, which are difficult for parents and caregivers to address. Behaviour Management: Addressing Challenging Behaviours is a one-day workshop for parents, caregivers, and professionals working with children and youth who display challenging or, inappropriate behaviours. During this workshop, participants will explore the potential causes and possible motivation behind these difficult behaviours, in order to create effective strategy plans. The workshop will also explore methods for relaxation and anger-management techniques for children and youth.
